ICSI Treatment in Coimbatore

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection, or ICSI, is a specialised fertilisation technique performed as part of an IVF cycle.
During conventional IVF, prepared sperm and eggs are placed together so that fertilisation can occur. During ICSI, an embryologist selects a single sperm and injects it directly into a mature egg.

When May ICSI Be Recommended?

- Very low sperm count
- Reduced sperm movement
- Abnormal sperm shape
- Previous failure of fertilisation with conventional IVF
- Surgically retrieved sperm
- Very limited sperm availability
- Frozen sperm with reduced quality after thawing
- A severe male-fertility condition
- Another laboratory or medical indication

ICSI is not automatically required for every IVF patient. The decision should be based on semen findings, previous fertilisation history and the couple's complete fertility profile.

ICSI Treatment Process
- The ovaries are stimulated using fertility medicines.
- Follicular growth is monitored.
- Mature eggs are collected.
- The semen sample is processed.
- A selected sperm is injected into each suitable mature egg.
- Fertilised eggs are monitored during embryo development.
- A suitable embryo is transferred or frozen according to the treatment plan.

Does ICSI Guarantee Fertilisation?
No. ICSI helps the sperm enter the egg, but fertilisation still depends on the biological health of the egg and sperm. Even after fertilisation, embryo development and implantation cannot be guaranteed.

ICSI and Male Infertility
ICSI may help selected men with severe sperm abnormalities become biological fathers. However, the underlying male-fertility condition should still be evaluated.

Depending on the findings, the male partner may require:
- Repeat semen analysis
- Hormonal testing
- Clinical examination
- Ultrasound
- Genetic evaluation
- Andrology or urology consultation
- Surgical sperm-retrieval assessment
