Artificial Insemination

Artificial insemination is a broad term for procedures in which prepared sperm is introduced into the female reproductive tract near ovulation. In modern fertility treatment, intrauterine insemination, or IUI, is the most commonly used approach.

When May It Be Considered?

- Mild sperm-count or movement concerns
- Ovulation difficulties
- Cervical-factor concerns
- Sexual or ejaculatory difficulties
- Selected unexplained infertility
- Donor-sperm treatment where legally and medically appropriate

Basic Process

1. Fertility evaluation of both partners
2. Confirmation that the procedure is appropriate
3. Natural-cycle or medication-supported ovulation monitoring
4. Laboratory preparation of the semen sample
5. Placement of prepared sperm through a thin catheter
6. Pregnancy test on the advised date
